Gifts & BequestsThe VNA Foundation Since 1951, Central Coast Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice has made a lasting difference in the lives of thousands of families, friends and neighbors who live in Monterey and San Benito Counties through home health, adult day services and community health education. Contributions are necessary and welcome to help offset the cost of providing care and services to our patients and clients. The Central Coast VNA Foundation was incorporated in 1996 as a charitable 501 (c)(3) organization to encourage, receive, administer and disburse tax-deductible, donated funds to all of the VNA and hospice health programs. (90Kb) You have the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the VNA's continued capacity to touch lives and heal those in the communities we serve. You can provide funds to assist current patients, fund special programs and projects, and help to build an endowment to strengthen operating support. Community vision and faith gave us the VNA in 1951. Our purpose is more vital today than ever before. When you choose to support the VNA, you will be issuing a promise to future generations that VNA services will be available to those who must have care but do not have resources to pay for the services they need. Gifts at any level are greatly appreciated. To assist you with planning, we have prepared the following information:
A monetary gift. A monetary gift gives an income tax deduction and VNA receives immediate financial support. This is the most common and simplest type of charitable gift. These gifts can be made with cash, check, payroll deduction, monthly bank draft or a major credit card. Memorials and honorariums. Remembering a loved one, a special person, or one who has passed away is a wonderful tribute. These gifts say so much about your regard and love. Memorials lift the spirit of families when they have lost a loved one. Flowers fade, but memorials and honorariums have a lasting quality that they will never forget. The person or family you designate will receive notification of your contribution, (with no amount mentioned) and you will receive a receipt for your tax deductible gift. Checks should be made payable to the VNA Foundation.
Bequests and Other Planned Giving: What is charitable gift planning and how does it relate to my financial estate plans? Estate planning is important to help meet the financial needs and goals for successful families and individuals. It encompasses the phases and cycles of life plans, from young families developing their income and financial resources to planning for the retirement years and the eventual passing assets to others. Charitable gift planning can be a very important feature in the estate planning process of each life cycle. It can help cut taxes, maximize assets, create additional income, give additional support through the retirement years and support the VNA as well. Many win-win arrangements can be made possible through good planning. A bequest in your will is a very thoughtful and simple way to remember VNA. You may choose to designate VNA to receive cash, land, pension funds, vacation home or other assets from your estate. Your bequest should be designated to the CCVNA Foundation, Inc. A gift of a marketable security. This is a popular type of donation. There are advantages to giving publicly traded stocks, shares in mutual funds and certain other assets. Many securities may be worth much more than what you paid for them in past years. As appreciated property, they can be a very attractive charitable gift. Our nation's tax laws offer special incentives that reduce taxation of capital gains for these gifts. Other gift options. Other kinds of assets may also be desirable. Your professional counsel can help you maximize the gifts for you and VNA. Personal property must be reviewed and determined to be an appropriate related use to the VNA's tax exempt status: Life insurance. Consider donating a policy with cash surrender value that you no longer require for its original purpose. You may also have an employer-provided group life insurance policy name VNA as the beneficiary. Real estate. An outright gift of unencumbered real estate can give substantial tax savings and save you the bother of selling. If property does have a mortgage, sometimes we can still structure the gift to give you certain tax advantages. Bargain Sale. By arranging a sale of real property to VNA below fair market value, you may secure a deduction for the gift portion while reducing potential capital gains tax. Charitable remainder trusts and charitable lead trusts are excellent planning tools available to structure wonderful gifts that help you and/or your designee and the VNA. Through these types of trusts you can secure a lifetime income and save taxes. They are the center piece of many estate plans where minimization of taxes is important as well as income for a beneficiary. In a lead trust, preservation of principal is passed on to a beneficiary with current income going to VNA. Why should I want to give a major charitable gift? Giving a large, important gift (perhaps the ultimate gift of a lifetime) has a very satisfying result. This decision makes a major statement about what is important to you. It clearly shows your concern for the well-being of your friends, neighbors and community. It shows what is important beyond the usual or expected. It also provides a wonderful example to others about establishing and holding high values and qualities so important in our homes and communities.
How would I plan a major or deferred gift to VNA? There are many possibilities. Choose what works for you. Gift selections will be different through the years depending upon your own situation. As you make your estate plans through the years, be well prepared and thoughtful. Be sure your wants and wishes are clear and complete.
To discuss possible estate plan options, with no obligation, and to obtain the correct legal name for remembering VNA in your will, trust or other estate plans, please contact: Tina Del Piero, Development Manager The VNA Endowment Perpetuates the Difference. The VNA Foundation has two general Endowment accounts: Patient Care and VNA General Support. The principal in these perpetual accounts can never be spent and only the earnings each year are used for each of the two purposes. Named funds may be established in either Endowment account by gifts of $25,000 or above, such as the Mazur Fund for Patient Care, and donors may have three years to reach the $25,000 level. No administrative or indirect fees currently are charged to any VNA Foundation Endowment account or fund -- every dollar is used for the purpose intended by the donor. The VNA Foundation staff welcomes inquiries regarding the establishment of new funds within the two existing Endowment accounts, or establishment of new Endowment accounts (such as for hospice, pediatrics, or adult day services). Estate gift to VNA & Hospice ensures the long term availability of home health and hospice services for those in need. All gifts are acknowledged, greatly appreciated, and are tax deductible. The VNA Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit corporation.
