Home Care
Founded in 1951, the VNA provides high-quality health care services for patients who are recovering at home from illness, injury or surgery. Using state-of-the-art equipment and specialized procedures for the home setting, VNA's caring, supportive staff works as an extension of the patient's physician. We develop a plan of care for each patient and a VNA registered nurse oversees the care and recovery process. A registered nurse is available by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If a problem arises between scheduled visits, the nurse is available over the phone and, if necessary, comes to the home. We have offices in Monterey, Salinas, Hollister and King City and make more than 80,000 home visits each year. We center our program on a team approach, involving the patient's physician, the patient and family, a registered nurse and other VNA staff. During each visit, the nurse assesses the patient's condition, provides treatments, and monitors compliance with medication routines. The patient and family are kept informed about the recovery process and the family learns ways to participate in the patient's care. Depending on the case, one of our clinical nurse specialists may act in an advisory capacity , as a resource to the home care nurse and, if necessary and ordered by the physician, make a visit to see the patient. VNA home care services include:
We accept Medicare, Medi-Cal, and private insurance for most of VNA's home care services. A VNA representative will discuss payment options before beginning services. Rehabilitation Services
Physical Therapy. A registered physical therapist designs a therapy program for the VNA patient that helps restore and preserve the patient's large muscle group functioning. Physical therapists also instruct the patient on how to use mobility aids, such as walkers and canes. Occupational Therapy. A registered occupational therapist helps VNA patients improve their daily living skills, with exercises to improve or restore small muscle groups and fine motor coordination such as eating, bathing, and dressing. When needed, the therapist trains the patient in the proper use of adaptive devices. Speech Therapy. A licensed speech therapist helps VNA patients restore or improve their communication skills, including reading, writing and speaking. Stroke Rehabilitation Therapy. Rehabilitation therapies are available for stroke patients through VNA's adult day care program. Included are speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. Diet Therapy. A registered dietitian helps VNA patients adjust to new eating regimes by planning for special dietary needs and instructing patients in nutrition and food preparation.
