VNA
goes into a home, skilled nursing or other facility only
when a physician has ordered professional care
for a patient who is recovering from illness, injury or
surgery. Using state-of-the-art equipment and
specialized procedures for the home setting, VNA’s
caring, supportive staff works as an extension of the
patient’s physician. A VNA registered nurse or therapist
oversees the care and recovery process and a registered
nurse is available by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a
week from offices in Monterey, Salinas, Hollister and
King City. (It is not VNA’s mission to provide hourly,
shift-work caregivers; other agencies provide this.)
VNA’s home care program centers on a team approach,
involving the patient’s physician, the patient and
family, a registered nurse and other VNA rehabilitation
and support staff. During each visit, the clinician
assesses the patient’s condition, provides treatments,
and monitors compliance with medication routines. The
patient and family are kept informed about the recovery
process and the family learns ways to participate in the
patient’s care.
The VNA Cardiac Program provides comprehensive care of
postoperative open-heart surgery patients following
specific protocols as outlined by the surgeons of
various institutions. A cardiac care plan is established
for each patient, which the clinicians utilize as they
follow these patients from admission to discharge. For
additional information, contact the VNA cardiac
coordinator at 831-648-3777.
We accept Medicare, Medi-Cal, private insurance and
private payments for most of VNA’s home care services.
As a non-profit agency, VNA delivers care to all who are
in need, regardless of their illness, income or
insurance, within available VNA resources as provided by
generous gifts from the community.
